About

Cinnamon is a favourite household spice and has been in use for thousands of years—as early as 2,000 B.C. Cinnamon, (Cinnamomum verum), also called Ceylon cinnamon, is native to Sri Lanka, Kerala, and Myanmar. It is also cultivated in South America and West Indies. Sri Lanka produces much of the world's Ceylon cinnamon. In India, cinnamon is naturally seen in the forests of Western Ghats and commercially cultivated in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Cinnamon is used to flavour a variety of foods, from confections to curries to beverages, and is popular in bakery goods. Essential oil is distilled from bark fragments for use in food, liquer, perfume, and drugs. Cinnamon is a great source of fiber, manganese, and calcium. It is a powerful antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory activities. Eating cinnamon keeps existing neurons in the brain alive and encourages new ones to grow. It lowers blood sugar levels by decreasing insulin resistance.
