Sona masoori is a type of Indian white rice, mostly grown in the areas of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It is a medium-grain, aromatic rice that is lightweight and low in starch. Sona masoori contains low calories as compared to basmati and other rice varieties. It is ideal for weight watchers and is easily digestible and good as weaning food for babies. Owing to its low starch content, sona masuri rice can be used to make variety of rices like lemon rice, coconut rice, tomato rice, puliyogare, ulundorge, kadag ogre, pulao, etc.
