A dugout you can hear.
You can hear a good dugout from the parking lot.
The songs come with the players, most of them from rec ball, and each team makes them its own. A girl who writes a new one brings it to her team, and her team decides if it sticks.
Every team finds its sound.
A dugout sings for the girl in the box, the pitcher in the circle, and the teammate who just made the play.
The rhythm, the call and answer, the name the bench calls when she steps in. Every ORIGIN team builds its own, and every season adds a verse.
Culture travels player to player.
Older players teach the younger dugouts.
Mentors volunteer, and each is at least two age divisions older than the dugout she teaches. She teaches the songs and when to sing them, where both teams already are, in the open, with both teams’ coaches there. Her service is named to her team and noted in her season record.
What it’s built on.
For players
Her voice is part of the game. She learns the songs, brings her own, and knows when a teammate needs to hear her.
For coaches
Coaches give the dugout to the players, and the players give it its sound.
For families
The dugout is where she belongs before her first hit. Mentoring is a volunteer program.
What stays
The songs change with every team. What they carry stays: a dugout that is with her, every inning. The bench’s game job lives in ORIGIN Watch.
